On this tour, you’ll start from Pigadia, the capital and main port of Karpathos, and hike in Lastos, a mountainous area located in the central part of the island.
The adventure begins at the starting point in Pigadia, where you’ll meet the local and experienced guide. From there, you’ll drive in a car to the settlement of Lastos. The guide will provide walking sticks to use throughout the hike. The trail is suitable for those with a moderate fitness level, and no previous hiking experience is necessary!
Following the guide, you’ll begin hiking along the trail in Lastos. Along the way, you’ll pass by fertile lands, where old settlers used to farm. On the path, you’ll often encounter friendly sheep and goats. Passing through pine tree forests, you’ll arrive at the historic Archangelou Mychael Monastery. After admiring the unique architecture of the monastery, you’ll continue the hike, encountering beautiful waterfalls and rocky landscapes.
Then, you’ll arrive at a spectacular viewpoint, giving you a panoramic view of Kyra Panagia and the fertile land in Mertonas, which provides Pigadia with water. You’ll stop for a break to take in the stillness of this area, while enjoying a hot tea or coffee. This will also be a good opportunity for you to take some photos of the picturesque scenery. At the end of the 7.5 km (4.3 mi) hike, you’ll return to the starting point in Pigadia by car.
