Surrounded by Arctic wilderness, this small Finnish village is perfect for experiencing diverse winter activities such as skiing, Northern Lights chases, ice fishing, and of course, snowmobiling!
On the day of your snowmobile safari in Saariselkä, you’ll have the chance to be picked up within a 10-kilometre radius of the village, or arrive at the Safartica headquarters at least 15 minutes before the starting time of your excursion. There, you’ll meet your expert instructor, who will distribute the thermal suits, winter boots, woollen socks, scarves, beanies and gloves to keep you warm throughout the experience, as well as the helmets and snowmobiles (1 per 2 participants). Once you’re all geared up, your instructor will give you a thorough safety briefing and a quick lesson on how to drive the snowmobile.
Once you feel prepared, it’s time to go! You’ll ride the snowmobile with a partner, speeding over snowy hills and beautiful fells, and enjoying the thrill of watching it all go by as you follow your expert instructor. You’ll spend around 45 minutes driving in total, which will give you a quick and fun taste of this wonderful winter activity.
Now, to drive a snowmobile, you need to be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license, which you need to bring on the experience. No previous experience is needed! Children under 12 years old or under 140cm in height will have to drive in a sledge pulled by the instructor, for safety reasons. All you need to do is bring warm winter clothing to wear under the suit your instructor will lend you, comfortable shoes, and anything else you might need (medication, snacks, etc.) to spend around an hour and a half on this amazing snowmobile safari in Saariselkä!
