This activity is run & operated from Papasidero and travels along the Lao River in Pollino National Park (7km/ 11km/ 25 km). Situated in southern Italy between Basilicata and Calabria, it is Italy’s largest protected park.

Meet your guide at the activity base in Papasidero for this whitewater rafting excursion on the Lao River. Organised based on age and ability, choose from one of three itineraries that travel through Pollino National Park – opting for family-friendly (7km), the paddle classic (11km) or the ultimate challenge – the non-stop (25km)! Whatever adventure you choose, each descent starts with a short safety briefing and kit demo from your lead guide – learning the commands and strokes you’ll need to stay afloat. Heading out onto the river, work as a team to navigate the bumps and bends along a steady section of the river and, as you pick up the pace, you’ll encounter some exciting rapids – including unexpected drops, narrow channels and swirling eddies! During the activity, you’ll also get to stop and enjoy some of the waterfalls and freshwater pools along the way. Be prepared to get wet – this is a wild ride on a grade II-IV river but, don’t worry, your experienced in-boat guide is on hand to supervise and steer you away from danger – reaching the take out location for some soggy high fives and photos to mark the moment!
